The growth in eco-tourism in recent years has seen travellers becoming more aware of their environmental impact. Sustainability credentials are playing an increased role in decision making when choosing where to stay and the findings from a number of surveys on the topic make for interesting reading:
- A recent Trip Advisor survey found that 71% of respondents plan to make more eco-friendly choices when planning their next trip.
- A new survey of 2,000 travellers by energy company E-ON has found that the sustainability of a hotel is important to 50% of respondents, while one in five claimed to be more likely to stay somewhere if it uses renewable energy sources.
- A recent Booking.com survey of 32,000 global travellers found that 52% are likely to favour to destination that can offer a reduced impact on the environment.
Switching to biomass heating can help your accommodation business to promote your sustainability efforts while also supporting the local economy by using locally sourced wood fuel and generating income through the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI).
“Increasingly we are finding that hoteliers are recognising the value of the green pound and that heightened environmental credentials have a direct impact on the bottom line. Biomass also helps stimulate the local economy through fuel provision which is an added bonus.”
