Beautifully located in mature grounds in Renfrewshire, Barochan Estate is a good example of a biomass district heating system in action on a country estate. By delivering significant cost savings, utilising existing wood resource, shed and farm equipment and generating significant RHI income, the project helps enhance the long term viability of the estate.
Solution in practice
HWEnergy installed the biomass heating system in the basement area of the main house with a fuel store hopper constructed externally. On a weekly basis, the hopper is loaded with wood chip which is transferred from the bulk shed by the front end loader.
District heating network
Heavily insulated underground heating mains transfer the heat from the main house approximately 200m to 6 cottages within the steading courtyard where a mixture of previous heating systems have been adapted to connect to the biomass district heating mains. The swimming pool is located adjacent to the main house and was previously heated by LPG.
Service and support
HWEnergy provides Barochan Estate with a comprehensive service and support package. This ensures all technical servicing is completed routinely and the client is provided with responsive remote and on-site technical support as required.
Our properties are all quite large and our energy bill wasn’t getting any cheaper..I estimate we will have saved £30,000 per annum on our heating costs! HWEnergy have been a first rate provider.
