Mount Stuart Trust chooses HWEnergy to install and maintain network of biomass boilers
We are delighted to announce that HWEnergy have been appointed by the Mount Stuart Trust as their renewable energy partner for a major regeneration project on the Isle of Bute. The project will transform historic and unused buildings and offer residential homes and self-catering holiday accommodation as part of an £8M + investment programme.
The three-year initiative is potentially one of the largest rural regeneration projects on a private Scottish estate.
Key elements of the project include:-
- Regeneration of multiple sites on Bute.
- Innovative renovation of farm steadings.
- Provision of homes to rent and eco-friendly self-catering holiday accommodation.
Alistair McIntyre, Buildings and Facilities Manager at Mount Stuart Trust said
We were looking for a biomass partner rather than a straightforward installer and wanted to appoint a company who could work with us over the long term and make this project a success which is why we selected HWEnergy.
By using their own wood to supply the biomass boilers the Trust will increase their self-sufficiency and support local employment
The Trust will be using wood from the estate to provide the chip to fuel the boilers and plan to refurbish the existing sawmill to chip and dry sawn timber. In so doing they will protect jobs for the future and reduce their carbon footprint to a minimum.
Bruno Berardelli, MD HWEnergy said
It’s inspiring to see the Mount Stuart Trust adopt such a forward thinking and holistic approach to the sustainability and economy of the island as a whole. We’re in good company with architects Page and Park and Atelier 10 and delighted to be a trusted partner in helping the Trust achieve their goals of cost control and carbon reduction.
The first part of the project is to install 4 biomass boilers in properties which are currently being restored by the estate. Ongoing it will include a mixture of residential properties currently on the mains gas network.
Working with expert architects and environmental consultants
The umbrella regeneration project is being led by Page and Park architects and environmental design consultants Atelier 10. HWEnergy will take on sole responsibility for the biomass boiler supply, installation and ongoing service, working directly with Mount Stuart Trust and Bute Estates. All boilers are made by leading Austrian manufacturer, Gilles.
