Benefits

For public and community sector organisations there are a number of benefits to be gained from biomass heating.

  • Reduce CO2 emissions. The heating of buildings can account for up to 80% of energy usage and biomass heat can therefore significantly reduce CO2 emissions.  A small primary school will generally save between 50 and 100 tonnes of CO2 per annum, a leisure centre can save around 400 tonnes.
  • Financial Savings. Biomass heat can deliver significant revenue savings on energy budgets. Even a no capital cost solution can reduce energy bills.
  • New Build Projects: Meet planning requirements and attain BREAAM Good or Excellent.
  • Heat supply. Simply pay for the heat that is produced by the boiler and minimise time and risk associated with operation and maintenance.
  • No Capital Option (ESCOs). Deliver carbon and financial (revenue) savings even when capital budgets are constrained.
  • Stimulate Scotland’s Economic Growth. Using wood to provide heat creates significant numbers of local jobs in Scotland throughout the supply chain.
